To the handful of ladies and gentlemen that made it out last night for the Haiti benefit, thank you. I really appreciate you coming out to support. In all the years of being on stage, that was the first time I was up there alone for a solid 30 minutes. It can be pretty nerve racking not having your boys flanking you.
I don’t know if I properly introduced every song I played, and some were some more obscure covers. For those of you interested in hearing the original versions, here was last night’s setlist:
1. Elvis Costello - “Dust…2” (off the record “When I was Cruel,” one of my favorite records of all time)
2. The Descendents - “Rotting Out” (this band helped to shape my adolescence)
3. Bob Dylan - “With God on our Side” (check out the Joan Baez version as well)
4. Stevie - “Sir Duke”
5. Bob Marley - “Redemption Song” (once again, I never thought I’d find myself covering a marley tune. White dude with dreads covering Bob. Bad news. However, it was an honor to perform it with my friend Andy, who spent 2 years in prison standing up for what he believed in. He used to sing this song on the prison yard.)
Thank you to all the musicians who performed last night. It’s always a pleasure to share a stage with Vinny (Movielife/I am the Avalanche), and it was an privilege to play alongside Richie from Underdog and Arthur from the Gorilla Biscuits. Thanks again.
